08/05-08/12 Layered Stories: Creating Themed Glass Plates & Bowls
August 5 and 12, 10am-1pm each session
Skill Level: Open to All Levels, ages 16+
Create a one-of-a-kind fused glass plate or bowl inspired by a theme of your own choosing! In this two-session workshop, students will learn how to use colorful murrine, stringers, and sheet glass to build imagery, patterns, and decorative scenes that reflect their personal interests and creative vision.
Begin by selecting from a wide variety of glass colors and murrine designs to develop a theme, whether it's a garden bursting with flowers, a favorite season, playful fruit, ocean life, abstract patterns, or something entirely your own. You'll learn design techniques for arranging glass elements to create visual interest, movement, and balance while assembling your project on a sheet glass base.
After the first firing, we'll meet again to add dimensional details and finishing touches. Additional elements will be contour or tack fused to create depth and texture before the piece is slumped into its final functional form.
Materials are sold separately, and every student will create a unique fused glass plate or bowl that tells a story through color, pattern, and design.
