2027: 01/22-01/24 Fused Glass Foundations: An Introduction to Fused Glass

If you’ve been curious about fused glass but weren’t quite sure where to begin, this is your starting place. Come spend three days playing with color, learning the basics, and discovering just how much you can create with glass. No experience, artistic background, or carefully planned masterpiece required.

This welcoming workshop is the starting point for our Fused Glass Foundations series. We’ll guide you step by step as you learn safe glass cutting, get comfortable with the tools of the studio, explore how different types of glass can be used together, and begin to understand what happens to your work once it heads into the kiln.

We’ll start small and build your skills project by project. Along the way, you’ll experiment with color, shape, composition, different firing styles, and the ways heat can completely transform a piece of glass.

You’ll create:

• Fused glass magnets
• Coasters
• Square plate
• Round plate
• Picture frame

Each project introduces something new while giving you plenty of room to make it your own. Follow our examples, head in a completely different direction, or do a little of both. This is a place to experiment, ask questions, make discoveries, and occasionally be surprised by what glass decides to do.

You’ll also learn the fundamentals behind full fusing, contour fusing, tack fusing, and slumping, giving you a better understanding of not just how to make your projects, but why fused glass behaves the way it does.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a strong foundation for continuing through the rest of the Fused Glass Foundations series, plus a colorful collection of projects that you created entirely yourself.
