Ready to discover just how many different things you can do with a sheet of glass?

In this three-day workshop, we’ll take the fundamentals of fused glass and start stretching them in new directions. You’ll explore texture, pattern, iridescence, line, bubbles, and flowing color while discovering how sheet glass and enamels can work together to create effects that simply aren’t possible with glass alone.

This workshop is part of our Fused Glass Foundations series and is designed to expand your creative vocabulary. Rather than concentrating on a single technique, we’ll move from project to project, with each one introducing a different way to think about glass, design, and what happens inside the kiln.

You’ll learn about and create:

We’ll begin by stacking and firing layers of sheet glass into thick, colorful puddles, then breaking and firing them again to reveal completely new patterns inside. You’ll use fiber paper to kiln-carve designs into glass, explore the changing colors and reflections of iridescent glass, and then begin adding enamels to your fused glass toolbox.

As we move into enamels, you’ll learn several very different ways to use them. We’ll paint and puddle color to create intentional bubbles, draw and write on glass using brushes, calligraphy nibs, and fluid writers, build patterns from tiny repeated dots and marks, and finish by pouring enamels to create organic designs filled with movement.

Along the way, you’ll learn how choices like glass thickness, layer order, enamel consistency, iridescent orientation, spacing, and heatwork can completely change the finished result. You’ll have examples and guidance to get you started, but plenty of room to choose your own colors, develop your own designs, and see where the materials take you.

By the end of the workshop, you won’t just have seven new projects. You’ll have a much larger collection of techniques and ideas that you can mix, adapt, and bring into your own fused glass work.
