2026: 06/03-05 Raku Glass: Exploration & Adventure

June 3-5, 10am to 5pm daily.

Skill Level: Open to All Levels, ages 16+

Join us for a three day workshop that invites you into the bold and unpredictable world of Raku Glass. This is an experimental process, although not entirely experimental because we will guide you every step of the way. The focus is on working with inclusions, metallic oxides, chemical reactions, and heat based transformation inside layers of glass. You will learn how these materials interact, shift, and sometimes surprise you in the best possible ways.

Raku Glass is inspired by the spirit of traditional ceramic raku. Practice, observation, and experience eventually allow you to predict results with reasonable accuracy. In the beginning, though, the magic comes from the surprise of opening the kiln and discovering something completely unexpected. The unknown becomes part of the creative journey. The blend of technique, intuition, and chance is what makes Raku Glass so rewarding.

Over the three days you will explore color development, surface effects, layering strategies, and controlled chaos that leads to remarkable pieces. We will cover safety, firing schedules, successful combinations of materials, and the underlying science that creates these dramatic reactions. You will complete multiple test tiles and finished artworks that document your path from curiosity to confidence.
