February 13-16, 2026, 9am-5pm daily.
Skill Level: Open to All Levels, Glass Cutting Skills Recommended
Take your mosaic and fused glass skills to exciting new heights—literally! In this four-day workshop, you’ll combine traditional mosaic artistry with kiln-formed glass techniques to create a richly layered, double-sided mosaic that plays with color, texture, and dimension.
Instead of using traditional grout, you’ll learn how to fill the spaces between your tesserae with powdered frit—a technique known as "frout"—and fuse everything in the kiln. This process not only strengthens your piece but also allows for vibrant, multi-colored backgrounds and smooth finishes.
You’ll design and build an 8” x 8” mosaic composed of four stacked layers of glass, including raised elements for added depth. Choose from a variety of provided patterns or bring your own ideas to life as you explore layout, andamento (visual flow), and advanced design techniques. You’ll also experiment with different methods of cutting and arranging tesserae to create dynamic compositions.
But that’s not all—you’ll also construct two custom glass stands to display your artwork. The first is a sculptural stand created with Miracle Mesh and clear or transparent glass. The second incorporates an LED light strip to beautifully illuminate your finished piece from behind, bringing your design to life.
Whether you're a seasoned mosaic artist or a glass fuser looking to push your creative boundaries, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to blend both disciplines into a show-stopping work of art. And the stands? You’ll find endless ways to use them in future projects, too.
