Skill Level: Intermediate

Embark on a four-day immersive journey into the captivating world of murrini and cane patterns, guided by the renowned glass artist Dale Keating. This combined workshop brings together the best of both techniques, offering a comprehensive exploration of creating intricate glass patterns using the vitrigraph kiln.

The Art of Murrini and Twisted Cane: A Dual Journey

Over the course of four days, you will master both murrini and twisted cane techniques, two essential elements in the art of kiln-formed glass. Start by diving into the foundations of murrini pattern building, where you will explore eight unique murrini designs. Learn stacking techniques, then move to the exciting process of pulling cane using a vitrigraph kiln, transforming your stacked patterns into dynamic glass components.

Next, venture into the art of twisted cane, where you will discover how to create mesmerizing twisted patterns that add motion and complexity to your glass work. Dale will guide you through the essential skills of cane pulling and pattern development, emphasizing the harmonious combination of color and form.

Collaborative Creativity: Working Together to Master Techniques

Glass artistry thrives on collaboration. Throughout the workshop, you will work in pairs, learning to manage the vitrigraph kiln while building and pulling both murrini and twisted cane patterns. Each team will have the opportunity to create multiple designs, gaining practical experience with both techniques. After pulling the murrini and cane pots, the class will share the results, ensuring that everyone leaves with samples of all the patterns created.
