Embark on a transformative journey with us in this unique 7-day workshop, where we unravel the intricate process of Pate de Verre while delving into the profound potential of evocative objects. This course is designed to empower you to navigate and overcome the challenges inherent in the delicate art of creating frit sculptures, transforming your personal narratives into tangible art pieces.
Inspired by his own experiences in the military and as a veteran, Bowton embraced casting objects as a means of giving form to his personal history. This workshop encourages you to step beyond conventional boundaries, to create a tangible space that encapsulates intangible moments and experiences. Glass serves as our dynamic canvas, offering a transformative landscape where personal stories and artistic expression merge.
Participants are invited to bring an object of choice, related to any aspect of their life (subject to size limitations and class guidelines). This object can represent any event, person, or experience, providing the basis for unique artistic expression. As we guide the transformation of these objects into glass, they become not only art, but timeless vessels of your personal history.
Join us as we explore the intersection of glass artistry and personal narrative, crafting pieces that will occupy a significant place in your collection and personal timeline.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Informed by his military background and experiences as an army veteran, Bowton's studio practice offers a profound exploration of war, post-traumatic stress, and mental wellness. His artworks serve as navigational tools, threading through the maze of memories, visual imprints, and social conversations that collectively constitute lived histories. Transforming seemingly ordinary army gear into poignant visual narratives, he contrasts the rigidity of war with the delicate nature of glass.
Bowton's work is not just an artistic endeavor; it's a dialogue. Through multimedia platforms, galleries, museums, and public events, he invites the audience to step onto the front lines of military deployment, fostering a deeper understanding of its profound human impact.
In the upcoming months of 2023, Bowton is set to participate as an artist in residence at the prestigious Museum of Glass. Later in the fall, he will join the Pilchuck Glass School as part of the Emerging Artist in Residence program. His vibrant artistry is set to take center stage this year as he presents his work at the Not Grandma's Glass 2023 competition on June 3rd (via Zoom), and competes for the esteemed Saxe Emerging Artist Award at the 2023 GAS conference in Detroit.
In addition, Bowton's works will feature in the 51st Annual Glass International Award Exhibition, hosted by Habatat Detroit Fine Art. His pieces will also grace the GAS Detroit members' exhibition, Connections 2023, which showcases glass artistry from myriad perspectives.
Join Bowton in his artistic journey as he transcends traditional boundaries, using glass as a medium to reflect the raw realities of war and the resilience of the human spirit.
